Education
Born in Baghdad and now a Saudi citizen, Dr. Al Sawwaf pursued his legal education at Baghdad University, College of Sharia Law, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963. He later obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Koranic Law from Oxford University in 1969 and served as a Research Assistant at Oxford University, England, in 1970.
Academic Career
Over the course of his career, he has held academic positions at Umm Al-Qura University and Harvard University, where he was a Visiting Scholar from 1976 to 1977. During this time, he played a key role in legal education, lecturing at 30 to 40 universities worldwide and contributing to the development of legal scholarship.
Legal Practice & International Experience
In 1978, Dr. Al-Sawwaf established his own law office, The Law Offices of Dr. Mujahid Al-Sawwaf, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. His practice quickly gained prominence, and by the early 1980s, he had expanded his expertise on a global scale. Between 1980 and 1982, he served as Of Counsel at the Los Angeles Law Firm of Erickson, Zerfas & Adams and at the San Francisco Law Firm of Morrison & Foerster, further strengthening his international legal credentials.

Dr. Al-Sawwaf continues to practice law internationally, representing clients in complex legal disputes. He has acted as legal counsel for plaintiffs and defendants before Saudi courts, the Boards of Grievances, and other judicial bodies. He has served as an arbitrator and umpire in multiple arbitration proceedings across Saudi Arabia and Europe, helping to resolve high-stakes legal disputes with fairness and precision.
